How to Draw a Spider in 5 steps

Learn to Draw a Spider in 5 Easy Steps

When I first started drawing, I had a lot of trouble learning how to draw spiders. They had tons of legs and eyes, and it was tough to get everything clean and symmetrical.

But that doesn’t have to be you…

Because I’ve spent most of my life drawing spiders, I’ve finally come up with a system to make it easy for beginners. I’ve broken it down into basic shapes and 5 easy-to-follow steps. If you’re looking for spooky drawings, this is a good place to start.

The final spider drawing:

Step 1: Draw a Small Circle

As usual we’re gonna break this spider down into simple shapes. We’ll start by drawing a circle, which will be this spider’s head. If this step is giving you trouble and you need some practice with basic shapes, check out how to draw a cube, how to draw a sphere, or how to draw a cone.

Step 2: Draw Another Circle

Next you’re going to want to draw a slightly bigger circle under the first circle. Don’t forget to erase any overlapping lines.

Step 3: Draw the Spider’s Face

The next step is… you guessed it!! More circles. Spiders have 8 eyes, so draw 8 circles in the formation you see below. You can put the eyes where ever you want though. After that draw 2 triangles on top of the circle to give this spider some fangs.

Step: 4 Draw the Legs

This is probably the hardest part of drawing a spider. Draw 8 spaghetti shaped appendages on this spider. If you’re having trouble here, start by drawing a single line, then go around that line with your spaghetti shape.

Step: 5 Add the Details

Time to add some random dots and scratches.I also used this time to segment the legs and turned it into a black widow with the hourglass shape on its back.

Bonus Step: Shade and Highlight the Spider

If you wanna go the extra mile and color and shade the spider, go for it. Just pick whatever spider colors you like, then do the shadows and highlights. I went with my favorite color combo.
