Step 1: Draw a Triangle

Simple shapes make drawing, well, simple. They are the foundation of almost every drawing you’ll do. That’s why step one of learning to draw a cone is to draw a triangle.

Step 2: Make the Bottom Curved

After you’ve drawn the triangle, erase the bottom line and replace it with a curved line. Now it’s starting to look like a simple 3D cone.

Step 3: Add Details to the Cone

The next step is to add some scratches and dots to the cone. This just helps to give the cone a little texture and visual interest.

Step 4: Color the Cone

Pick a color, any color, and color in the cone. I went with one of my favorite colors, blue.

Step 5: Shade the Cone

Time to shade the cone. Start by picking a light source. My light is coming from the top left. So I shaded the right side of my cone. This step really helps to make the cone look 3D.

Step 6: Highlight the Cone

Keep the light source from earlier in mind when you highlight. Mine was coming from the top left. So I’ll add some highlights on the top left.
