How to Draw a Cube in 5 Steps
In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to draw a cube step by step using simple 3D shapes.
This is a beginner-friendly lesson that will help you understand perspective and make drawing objects like treasure chests and UFOs much easier.
What the cube will look like when your done:

Step 1: Draw 3 Lines
Whenever I’m drawing a cube, I start with 3 lines. Keep them the same length and parallel to each other. This is the foundation of your cube. Draw the middle line slightly lower than the outer lines.
Not super important, but…
Cubes have 6 sides that are all the same size. So, make sure you keep that in mind when you’re drawing your cube. Making the lines different lengths or distances apart can give you a different shape entirely.

Step 2: Connect the Bottom Lines
The next thing I usually do is draw the bottom of the cube. Draw two lines to make the bottom of the cube.

Step 3: Two More Parallel Lines
On the other side of the cube, draw two more parallel lines.

Step 4: Give the Cube a Pointy Hat
The top of the cube kinda looks like a pointy hat. It’s basically a triangle without the bottom line.
It helps to sell the 3D illusion if you keep all the lines parallel.

Step 5: Details
Draw some seemingly random lines and dots. This gives a little bit of texture to our cube, and helps to give some visual interest. You can use these same techniques when learning how to draw other things like submarines and potion bottles.

Bonus Step: Color and Shade
Pick some cool colors. I went with blue and green (my fav colors).
Then you know the usual…
Pick a light source and keep it in mind when you do the shadows and highlights.

Oh wow!!! Your cube looks pretty good. I think you learned how to draw a 3D cube, good job! Pretty soon you’ll be better than me.
Now that you know how to draw a cube, try learning other fundamental shapes like a sphere or cone. Once you’ve mastered the basic forms, drawing things like UFOs and treasure chests become much easier.
Drawing Challenge
Now that you’ve drawn a cube try drawing cubes in different sizes, then stack them on top of each other. Draw some cubes in front of others to create depth.
faq’s
Why does my cube look weird or uneven?
This usually happens when the first 3 lines are not the same length or spacing. When you are doing a cube step by step, small mistakes at the start make the whole thing feel off later on. Slow down on the first step and try to keep everything even.
Why does my cube look flat instead of 3D?
Most of the time it is because the lines are not staying parallel. A cube drawing only looks 3D when the angles stay consistent and the back edges line up with the front shape.
What is the easiest way to draw a cube?
Start with 3 equal parallel lines, then connect them to build the sides. This is the simplest way to learn cube drawing for beginners because it keeps the structure clear and easy to control. Basically, just follow this tutorial.
What should I draw after learning how to draw a cube?
Once you understand cube drawing step by step, you can use the same idea for things like treasure chests, buildings, or UFOs. Most 3D objects start from the same basic structure.
