How to Draw an Asteroid in 4 easy Steps
If you just google how to draw an asteroid, or asteroid drawing then you’re in the right spot. I make drawing asteroids simple by breaking the process down into steps that are super easy to follow. I also use simple shapes that anyone can draw. That way even you can learn how to draw an asteroid.
What the final asteroid drawing will look like:
Step 1: Draw a Circle
Most drawings start with a circle. This one is no different. Draw a circle, and pretty soon you’ll have an asteroid drawing.
Step 2: Cover the Asteroid in Craters
Let’s give this asteroid drawing some craters. Draw big circles all over the asteroid and fill them in. Then draw some lines around them to give them a lip. Let some of the circles overlap the outline of the circle.
Step 3: Draw the Asteroid Tail
This asteroid is burning up in the atmosphere, so let’s give it a flaming tail. To accomplish this, draw a wavy line around the asteroid.
Step 4: Draw the Details
Draw some random scratches and dots to add some detail and texture. Make it look like this asteroid has been flying through space. This step will trick people into thinking that you are better at drawing than you actually are.
Bonus Step: Shade and Highlight the Asteroid
If you wanna keep going, you can add the flat colors. Then add the shadows and highlights. This step is optional but it does bring the asteroid drawing to life.

What is the difference between an asteroid and a meteor?
An asteroid is a big chunk of rock floating around in space. A meteor is what we call a space rock when it enters an atmosphere and burns up, creating the streak of light you see in the sky. So technically, this drawing is an asteroid with a flaming tail, which is a little scientifically questionable. But it looks cool.
Why do asteroids have craters?
Asteroids get craters when they are hit by other rocks flying through space. There are a lot of rocks bouncing around out there, and eventually some of them are going to smack into each other. The bigger the impact, the bigger the crater.
How do you make an asteroid look like it’s moving?
Give it a long flaming tail and add a few smaller pieces of rock flying off behind it. You can also add some short lines around the asteroid to show the direction it’s traveling. The more stuff you have trailing behind it, the faster it will look.
