How to Draw a Gravestone in 6 Easy Steps

Let me guess, you just googled “how to draw a gravestone.” Well, you came to the right place. I take learning to draw a gravestone and make it super easy by breaking the drawing down into simple shapes and easy to follow steps. That way anyone can learn how to draw a gravestone.

Your finished gravestone drawing should look something like this:

Step 1: Draw This Shape

Draw the shape below. If I was forced to describe the shape because I was writing some sort of tutorial, I would say it looks like a lowercase “n” or an upside-down “u.”

Step 2: Make the Gravestone 3D

Make the gravestone look 3D by drawing a line to the right of the first shape.

Step 3: Draw the Edge of the Grave

This step gives a little lip to the edge of the gravestone and helps to add some more 3D details to the drawing.

Step 4: Draw some rocks around the gravestone

Randomly draw some rocks around the base of the gravestone. To keep it simple just draw some lumpy circles to make the perfect rocks. Rocks will help to ground the gravestone so it doesn’t look like it’s floating in space.

Step 5: Draw Some Grass

Some grass around the rocks and grave will help to ground it even more. I just randomly added noodle shapes in between the rocks and gravestone.

Step 6: Add the Details

Time for the best part… the details. I added random scratches and dots to give the grave some texture and make it a little more interesting to look at. This is a good time to write RIP on the stone as well.

Bonus Step: Shade and Highlight the Gravestone

Color and shade the gravestone, if you wanna go the extra mile. I went with a blue-ish gray gravestone, and a greenish color for the rocks. I thought the white grass helped to make the gravestone drawing look extra spooky.
